Too often, we hear stories from employers that one of their good staff members has got themselves in trouble at work. The employer blames themselves for not seeing the signs and wishes they could have done something earlier. Well, you can.
Employer misbehaviour doesn’t generally just come out of the blue. Was there a breakdown of relationships in the workplace that could have been mediated before the situation became disciplinary? Was the staff member feeling aimless, demotivated and frustrated before internal relationship issues developed?
We sometimes hear from respondents, who can open up and speak frankly during an independent investigation, that they were demotivated, bored, anxious, and unchallenged some time before things went awry. When delving a little deeper, we can easily see that they would have benefited from one-on-one coaching with an independent coach.
Coaching allows a staff member to open up and reflect on where they are in their lives and where they may want to go. Often this means moving on from the workplace, but it can also result in a new lease of life, increased motivation and a fresh challenge for the staff member, resulting in de-escalation of internal issues and ultimately avoiding any disciplinary issues from arising.
Good employers will see the signs and take action. Get in touch if you have great employees who may need some reflection and guidance. It’s far better to take positive action now than to allow frustration to develop into harmful behaviour in your business.
